Why We Built GeraCity: The Studio Story
Published 21 April 2026 · 7 min read
Quick answer: GeraCity exists because Gera Services runs 28 real products, and a city builder is the cleanest way to let players play with the whole portfolio. Hospital = GeraClinic. Restaurant = GeraEats. The game was a marketing project that became a real game in its own right.
The brief
Gera runs 28 consumer products spanning healthcare, home services, food, rides, markets, payments, and more. Explaining the portfolio verbally takes five minutes. Showing it on a map as a city — with hospitals, restaurants, markets — takes ten seconds. We built GeraCity as an onboarding surface for the Gera ecosystem.
The first prototype (and what it got wrong)
Our first prototype was essentially a product catalogue reskinned as a map. Click the hospital → land on geraclinic.com. It was boring. Players installed, clicked two buildings, and left. We kept the premise but added real city-builder mechanics: zoning, happiness, supply chains, events.
The GeraCoin idea
The breakthrough was GeraCoins. Earn them in game, spend them on real discounts in real Gera products. This gave the game a reward loop that fits the ecosystem. Playing the game becomes marginally valuable in the real world — not in a gambling-casino sense, but in a “my cleaning is 10% off on GeraHome next week” sense.
The studio
Gera Games is a small team inside Gera Services. We use the shared Gera infrastructure — auth, payments, localisation — so we can focus on game design. Four games now live: GeraTycoon, GeraQuest RPG, GeraRush, and GeraCity.
What's next
- Multiplayer: connect your city to friends' cities for trade routes (2026 Q3).
- Country skins: build a city styled for Yerevan, Tbilisi, Lagos, Jakarta.
- Cross-game: cities you build in GeraCity show up in GeraQuest RPG as explorable zones.
