5 Common Mistakes in GeraCity (And How to Fix Them)

Published 21 April 2026 · 8 min read

Quick answer: The five mistakes: over-zoning early, unlocking transit before the population needs it, spreading services across the map, ignoring happiness until it tanks, and spending GeraCoins on cosmetics before the Gera Tower endgame unlock. Each is recoverable in 20-40 minutes of focused play.

1. Over-zoning in the first hour

Every zoned tile demands roads, services, and water/power. Zone a big district and your tiny starter budget evaporates. Fix: zone 10-15 tiles at a time, let them fill in before expanding.

2. Unlocking transit too early

Bus hub at 500 citizens looks tempting. It isn't. Maintenance drains your treasury. Fix: wait for 2k citizens before the first transit line.

3. Spreading services

A hospital in the corner of a big city covers 5% of citizens. Fix: cluster services in the centre of each district. Overlap beats coverage.

4. Ignoring happiness

Below 70%, growth slows and GeraCoin accrual halves. Fix: build parks, keep services upgraded, balance residential with commercial. Check the happiness panel daily.

5. Spending GeraCoins too early

The Ferris wheel is fun. It is not worth 3,000 GeraCoins. Fix: save for Gera Tower (10k GeraCoins, +50% city-wide service efficiency). Cosmetics come later.
